Preen Resort 2012

The weather in Chicago has been fucking awesome lately, and as such I've been spending more time outdoors enjoying that which I'm denied a good portion of the year in Chicago; warmth and sunshine.  Because of this I haven't been posting much lately.  I've been looking through the resort collections, and let's be honest, most of the shit has been seriously phoned in, and nothing to get excited over.  However, the Preen collection was all kinds of awesome, and I loved almost every look.  So if you haven't already, please take a moment to enjoy it.

Chanel Resort 2012

Dudes, we've got new Chanel shit!  The Chanel Resort 2012 collection was presented at the Hotel du Cap, in Antibes on the French Riviera, and apprently it's one of, if not the most expensive hotel in the world.  Let's take a peek at a level of luxury most of us will never be a party to.  Just breathe, and take it in.

The show started with some pretty, bright yellow looks, and sprinkled through out the show were these bizarro thong-boots.  When and where would these be desirable?

I love the top here on this lavender look, the skirt and shoes, not so much.

I love, love, love this dress, and the shoes are adorable too.

This outfit is a little kooky, but I kinda like it.  The layering of the tops is interesting, and what is going on with the top of the jeans attaching to what looks like some pajama bottoms?

This top is kind of amazing.  I like the juxtaposition of the sort of sexy, gathered, sheer, black overlay with the conservative striped button-up.  I want it.

Fancy.

I love this look.  The way everything is put together is pretty pretty, and I love the embellished cap sleeves.

Pretty.

Time for some white stuff.

Gimme all of it, the embelishment, the flowyness, the pleating and the shoes.

Dreamy gorgeous.

That's a lotta pearls.

This dress is as pretty as this model is bored.

Giggles.  Do you think he was actually cool with wearing the turban, or did Karl have to put his foot down?

Costume Institute Gala 2011

I know I'm a little late to the party (ho ho) in writing about the Costume Institute Gala from this year, but I was in a semi-aforementioned black hole for a bit, and I figure better late than never.  There was some good, a lot of boooooring and quite a bit of bad.

First the good:

Karen Elson in Alexander McQueen - I love me some red hair, and this here is pretty good.  This was probably my favorite look from the whole Gala.  Dress, hair, makeup, and accessories are fantastic.
Mary-Kate Olsen, in vintage Givenchy - I'm not generally crazy about the Olsens' style, but I'm liking this look.  I like the red dress with all the green accessories, though it does sort of look like a kid in a grown up's dress.  I wonder what it would look like on someone who wasn't quite so wee.

Saoirse Ronan, in Rodarte - More red.  I loved this dress on the runway so it's cool to see someone wearing it.

Shalom Harlow, in Marchesa - I love the quilling detail here.

Crystal Renn, in Zac Posen - The dress is very pretty, and I love the dramatic hair, it reminds me of Sean Young in Blade Runner.  Also, can the industry stop trying to tell me that this chick is plus sized?  Clearly that is not the case anymore.

Ginnifer Goodwin, in Topshop Unique with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels, a Kotur clutch, and Aperlaï shoes - If this were just about the fit of the dress it would sooooooooooo be in the bad category, but as an overall look I love everything here, minus the horrible fit in the bust and hips.  If this were a more flattering cut in the same color she would have been my favorite look.  The shoes are great, I love the jewelry and the makeup, and her hair cut is adorable.

And now the Bad . . .

Britt Maren, in Winter Kate with House of Harlow 1960 jewels - First of all, jewels?  Right.  Secondly, that's one sad sack of a dress there.  The color on her is so blah, and the cut is so bad.  The top looks like a lazily closed bathrobe, and don't get me started on the wrinkles, my god!  The applique thing at the waist is confusing, why is the one side so tiny?  That along with the four little chains look sort of pointless, there's no impact, it might just be better if they weren't there and it was just the one big piece.  I'm just going to ignore the hair and the ugly dyed-to-match shoes sticking out down there.  It's all so bad, and they both look kind of embarassed, don't they?  I would be.

Christina Ricci, in Zac Posen - This looks like a Tim Burton villianess, does it not?

Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning, both in Valentino - My problem here isn't so much that they look bad, they both look cute, but Elle is 13, and I can almost see things on her that I don't care too look at on a LITTLE GIRL.

Stella McCartney, in her own design - This dress is awkward, and quite frankly, it sort of looks like a penis.  Seriously.

Vanessa Traina, in Louis Vuitton - Wednesday Adams fetish is hard look to pull off.  This is so unfortunate and sad looking.  This is the Costume Institute Gala, why would you want to wear something so joyless?  However, I do enjoy the peter-pan collar dickey.

Doutzen Kroes, in Giambattista Valli - This is a whole lot of cheap looking blah. There is nothing exciting about this other than that there is a whole lot of skirt going on, but it looks like it's made of some yucky dotted tulle.  Something interesting in the accessories department may have elevated this look to something more impressive, but I think Stella's face in the photo to the right says it all.

Work With Your Fantasy

Gaaaaaah, I've been so absent lately, I've been out of town, and generally out of sorts since I got back. It's been really cold and rainy lately here in Chicago, and I'm pretty sick of it. Let's pretend it's already glorious summer, and I have lots of money. I would totally buy all of these maxi dresses.

Young, Fabulous & Broke - Mary Border Maxi Dress

Shoshanna - Sunset Stripe Maxi Dress.  It's silk chiffon which is very happy making.

A.L.C. - Macrame Long Dress.  I love the top of this dress, but if I'm going to pay $900 for a summer dress, I'd like the hem to be even, or at least look intentionally uneven.

Halston Heritage - Print Long Dress

And finally, my favorite, Rebecca Taylor - Mirrored Gown.  Yes.

I'm a Sucker for Some Boo

Today when I was going through my email there was one from Tobi, as there usually is.  Generally I just open and delete pretty quick, but the one today gave me pause, or should I say paws? (God that's horrible.)  There he was, the most adorable dog on the planet, Boo.  If you aren't familiar with Boo I suggest you click on that link and acquaint yourself.

Holy shit, this dog is so cute.

Can you stand it!?! Me neither.

The story line here is that the girl LOSES Boo and is heartbroken.  How is that even possible?  If Boo was my dog I would never even put him down.

Ah, but then ecstasy, Boo returns.

It's just too much.

In case you missed it, there were actually a couple cute pieces in the photos too.  These Acne Halo Wedges are making me want them.

And I loved this Robert Rodriguez dress too.
