I Refuse to Title This Post "Rock Lobster"

I have a bunch of stuff in my sewing room that I've had for a long time and never gotten around to using.  One item I've had forever is this gold lobster applique that got in NYC years ago for less than a dollar.  I'm sure someday I'll slap it on something and it'll be great.

It's awesome, isn't it?  I bet you wish you had one.  For those of you who don't have a gold lobster applique at your disposal there is a ton of cool shit out there featuring lobsters that you can have for your very own.

First up are a couple of sweaters by Markus Lupfer  Both are on Net-a-Porter.  This one will run you $490.

And this one will set you back $500.

This look is from Charlotte Taylor from her Fall/Winter 2011 collection.  It's not available yet, but you can find other cute stuff from her previous collections on Young British Designers.   Loving it with the pink fur.

Lobster T-shirt on Etsy, by seller Xenotees.  The writing on it says:

" J'ai le goût des homards, qui sont tranquilles, sérieux, savent les secrets de la mer, n'aboient pas... "

Which translates to:

"I have a liking for lobsters. They are peaceful, serious creatures. They know the secrets of the sea, they don’t bark..."

Apparently that's a quote from poet Gérard de Nerval.

Lobster Claw Necklace from A la AVRA on Etsy.  For those of you are over the whole bird skull trend this may be a nice new direction to go in if you want to stay with the dead animal theme.  It's cast from an actual lobster claw and come's in at 2.25" long  x .75" wide, which is pretty big.  The sterling silver version is a bit pricey at $299, but you can get a bronze version done for $99, which isn't too bad.

There is also this smaller whole lobster claw necklace that you can get from seller Twigs and Heather, also on Etsy.

For my more daring readers there is this lovely vintage circle skirt with embroidered raffia lobsters on it.  Their eyes and antennas are done in sequins, and the whole thing is pretty fabulous.  This amazing piece is available from seller Atomic Blond Girl

Now you can't wear these salt-n-pepper shakers, but they're pretty darn cute.  They say they're a souvenir from Boston, but then they were made in Japan which I enjoy.  They're being sold by Maplewood Bungalow for only $12, so get 'em before they're gone.

And no lobster fashion post would be complete with out a nod to the Lobster Dress by the one and only Elsa Schiaparelli.  Wikipedia says of the dress "The 1937 Lobster Dress was a simple white silk evening dress with a crimson waistband featuring a large lobster painted (by Dali) onto the skirt. . . His design for Schiaparelli was interpreted into a fabric print by the leading silk designer Sache. It was famously worn by Wallis Simpson in a series of photographs by Cecil Beaton taken at the Château de Candé shortly before her marriage to Edward VIII.[11]"  The photo to the right is one of that series of photographs.

And finally,  a few shots of Isabella Blow, a woman who knew how to work the hell out outta some lobster.

Have a great weekend!
